My Raspberry Pi project

This Summer I am going to build a Robot with the GoPiGo Robot Kit and Raspberry Pi.
I am going to be able to control my robot with a Nintendo Wii remote controller. My robot will have three wheels. The robot will be powered by a pack of eight double a batteries.  The materials I will need are, a Wii remote controller so I can control the robot, a robotics controller board, motors, WiFi, Bluetooth, wheels, and a robot chassis.  I will need help from my Dad to code and build my robot. For this project I am going to learn a lot.  I am going to learn how to code better, because I am making a robot.

After I make my robot I might add sensors, and the sensors might detect if someone or something has come into the room.

Mothers day

Two Sundays ago it was Mother's Day. My dad, Taylor, Camryn, and Deacon, and I made an edible arrangements bouquet. My dad,Taylor, and I got up early while our mom was still asleep, and we started to make the bouquet. We cut up the fruits and then we made little balls with a scooper. Next our Dad melted some chocolate and Taylor and I got to dip cherries in the melted chocolate. My dad and I cut up pineapple in little stars, and then we started to put all the fruit on sticks. We cut up some watermelon and used part of as a vase to hold the bouquet. We also used the top of the pineapple to stick all the sticks in. When our mom woke up me and Taylor went in to tell her that she had to stay in her room until we were done, so she took a shower. While she was doing that we cleaned our dining room. When she came out everyone was awake and we handed her the cards that we had bought at the store the day before. We had a fun Mother's Day.

Reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

This blogpost is not as long as one of my other ones, Number the Stars. This time I am writing about the book I had a fun time reading called The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I am working on friendship this block in homeschool and while I was reading the book I noticed that several of the characters showed friendship.

When Lucy first comes into Narnia she find a faun, Mr. Tumnus, and he invites her to have tea by the fire at his house. Lucy falls asleep while Mr. Tumnus plays the flute. Mr. Tumnus was just tricking Lucy because he worked for the White Witch. His job was if he  ever saw or met a Son of Adam or a Daughter of Eve he would kidnap them and bring them to the White Witch. Once he found out that Lucy was a Daughter of Eve he was going to kidnap her, but he fixed his mistake and helped her escape from the White Witch by helping her find the way back to her house. Mr. Tumnus showed friendship by saving Lucy's life.

When everybody comes into Narnia, Lucy is the leader and she leads them to Mr. Tumnus’s house, but when they gets there they find his house is all destroyed by the White Witch. Everybody is hungry and cold and wants to just forget and leave the poor faun, but Lucy says, “No we can’t. We need to help Mr. Tumnus this nice faun." Even though Lucy did not know where to go she was a good friend by staying in Narnia to help this faun.

The first time Edmund went into Narnia he spoke with the White Witch and thought she was friendly because she Edmund gave Turkish Delight. Edmund told told the White Witch about Lucy meeting a faun. Later Edmund found out from Lucy that the White Witch was bad. Lucy said the Witch was pretending to be nice to Edmund, because the second time Edmund came to Narnia the Witch captured him, and Lucy and her brothers and sisters helped Edmund escape from the White Witch. Lucy and her siblings showed friendship by helping Edmund escape.

Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund find a red robin who leads them to a beaver. The beavers, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, help the kids by giving them some food and bringing them to their house to be warm. The Beavers also tell the kids about Aslan who could save Mr. Tumnus and find Edmund. When Aslan comes winter will die and spring will come. The Witch can not turn Aslan into stone, and Aslan is more powerful then the Witch. The Beavers were showing friendship by getting them some food and letting them stay at their house and also by telling them about Aslan.

When the kids find and meet Aslan they camp with him and others. Lucy and Susan can't sleep. The girls go out of their tent and see Aslan walking to the stone table. The
White Witch was there. (Aslan and the White Witch talked the day before and Edmund had to be killed, but Aslan was willing to be killed for him.) Aslan gets killed so Edmund doesn't have to die. When the girls get up from their hiding place they see the stone table. It had cracked and Aslan isn’t there anymore.
"Is this more deep magic?" Lucy asked.
"Yes, it is," said a great voice behind them. They turned around and see Aslan. Aslan gave up his life for Edmund, and that takes a lot of courage and friendship at the same time.

I liked this book and I had a fun time reading it. I can show friendship lots of ways. I can help my friends when they need help or help them when they get hurt. This book taught me all about friendship and I am glad I read this book.

The Tulip Gardens

One Friday evening my family and I went to the Tulip Gardens. I had a lot of fun. We brought our dinner because something we have been doing is having a picnic dinners. We weren't so sure if we could bring our dinner into the Tulip Gardens, so our dad went to go ask. They said it was fine. We had a hard dinner. We had salad, and we didn't want to carry it wherever we went so we left it in the car and we had an orange before we went in, and our mom carried pitas and hummus. Our mom brought her camera and we took lots of pictures. Then we found a bench and some of us were hungry so we sat down to have our snack. We walked some more, and then we saw a bunch of kids playing at a bouncy house. Camryn and Deacon wanted to go and play on it. We weren't sure if it was free to play but we asked and it was. They also said that if you come on Fridays when big kids are still in school there aren't a lot of people playing. A really cool spot I liked was behind the waterfall. It was beautiful. Another fun spot was rolling down the big hill. Once we got back to the car we had dinner, and then Taylor noticed that he had left his sweatshirt on the top of the hill, so he and our dad went back to get his jacket. We had a fun time at the tulip gardens, and I want to go again sometime.

My Scratch Project

A couple weeks ago I made a Scratch project for Maker Day. I haven't named my project yet,  but it is a fun game to play. I've learned more coding so I'm getting better at making games. Some games that I make can be pretty simple to code, but some other games take more coding than others.  I'm always learning more in Scratch. It's one of my favorite things to do on Maker Day. I'm still coding a lot more games, and I help Camryn code lots of things, and sometimes I help Taylor remember some coding that he forgets. Scratch is a really fun maker project, and the more I make games, the more I learn.

Soccer with the eight-year old club team

On Thursday I started soccer with the eight-year old club team. They cancelled my first day of practice so I got to have game day at Academy.  The next pratice, it was rainy so they cancelled it too! The next practice it was going to rain but we needed to practice so they had us practice indoors. At practice I learned some new turns. We played a game and it was one person on their own team and the other team had two people. I was the person that was on my own team and we were trying to score goals, and I was the one that scored the goal even though I did not have a partner. After that we had a scrimmage. I don't really remember what the score was but I had fun.  Today I get to pratice with them again and I'm excited. In a couple weeks I am going to tryout again and I'm really hoping that I make one of the teams.

Emi Dates

My siblings and I have been having Emily dates every week! Our last date everybody got to go and get snow cones. They were good, and I had three flavors. Rootbeer, orange, and I forgot the other kind, but it was yummy. One of my favorites dates was going to the trampoline place. Camryn and I went together. I practiced my flips and there were lots of other fun things to do there also. There was a pit, tramps, a climbing wall, and lots more. The Emily dates were fun, and I can't wait to go on more.

My Bunny

I'm getting a bunny!!! This is going to be my favorite pet and friend! I have learned all about bunnies and now I just need to practice feeding them and cleaning up pee and poo, and in two weeks I'm getting a bunny! I am so excited! One interesting fact the bunny store owner told us is that if you just keep your bunny in its cage and don't play and hold it for a while, it won't let you pick it up anymore. I was holding and petting a grey bunny and it started to climb up my chest! Then it smelled my shoulder and then it just laid on my shoulder! I want that grey one! The bunnies at the store were only $29.99! Taylor, Camryn, and I are all getting bunnies so we are going to have three bunnies!

Academy

Yesterday I had game day at Academy. I had a lot of fun. My team was winning 9-0 until both coaches started to play with the other team, and the coaches weren't going easy! It was not fair. The white team scored a goal, but my team was still winning! I scored a goal too! One person on my team was dribbling the ball and someone on the other team tried to steal it, but he quickly passed it to me and I was fast enough to beat everybody to the goal. I was dribbling and I kicked the ball hard, and it scored! When game day was over the score was 12-2, and our team won. The position I love most is offense because I love to score goals. That was my last day of Academy because I am the oldest in the whole group, so I am going to practice with the club girls that are eight so I will get better. I will miss Academy, I'll miss my new friends, and a lot of other things. I loved doing Academy, and I want to practice with them again.

Ice skating lessons

In March Camryn and I took ice skating lessons. I learned a lot. The things that my teacher had me practice were Basic one skills: sit on the ice and stand back up, two-foot hop, dip, two-foot glide, and forward swizzles. These skills were easy, so when I went to public skate to practice my tricks, I practiced Basic one skills and Basic 2 and 3 skills which were forward one-foot glide, backward swizzles, two-foot spin, backward one-foot glide, and lots more. When I got my papers to see if I passed the level or not, I was excited to hear that I had passed Basic 1. I had fun taking ice skating lessons, and I wish that I could have done more lessons.  I started soccer, so I didn't get to take lessons anymore, but I found my winter sport.

Sewing

A while ago I started sewing lessons. My first project was to sew a pillow. It took about four or five lessons but I was a beginner, and had just started. When I finished my pillow my sewing teacher gave me a prize. It was a sewing kit. My next project was an apron. We had to sew a lot to get the apron done. Once I finished the apron, I got to decide if I wanted to sew a lap blanket or pjs. I decided to sew pjs. They were hard. We had to sew along a curved line. I got ahead and Taylor was still working on his pjs when I had finished. I had already bought some other fabric because I wanted to sew another pair of pjs so I started my other pair. Once I finished I could choose my next project. I really wanted to sew a dress, so I started to make a dress. I have not finished it yet but I am excited to finish it and also excited to wear it!

Camping

On Thursday my family and I went camping. We had a lot of fun. When we got to our camping place we went to ask the owners if their park was opened (we were going to camp at Nuns Park), but the owner said that their park wasn't open until Saturday. He also said that about 4 miles up the road was another camp site called Deer Creek so we drove up there and luckily it was opened! We picked our site and then set up camp. Once camp was set up we started the fire so we could make dinner. Our dinner was hot dogs, and for dessert we had pineapple upside down cake. It was so yummy. We went to bed really late, probaly around 10:30pm. Then we went to get ready for bed. We fell asleep, but I had so much trouble staying warm. My legs were so cold, and I was still wearing dad's big fleece coat and my big coat but I was still very cold. I was the first to wake up. For breakfast we had oatmeal, hot chocolate, and left over pineapple upside down cake. Once we had eaten breakfast We rode our bikes to the beach. Me and Taylor tried to catch little baby prairie dogs, but we didn't catch one. We came back to our camp and had lunch.

Then Taylor, Dad, and I went on a huge hike. We had to walk all the way from our camp to the other camp site, probably about 2 miles! Then we hiked the hill about a couple thousand feet. (It was big.) Once we got to the top of the mountain we had to go down the mountain. It was steep. When we got to the bottom of the hill, we were going to swim from the mountain to our camp site. The swim was a big one too. But then Taylor talked to a family in a boat and they gave us a ride to our camp. Once we went back to our camp, we had dinner and then we started to pack up. Once we were packed up we went to our cousin's house and roasted smores with them. I had a great time camping and I want to go another time soon.

We are on the very top of this hill.

Reading to my siblings

Today I decided that I want to read fun books to my younger siblings; books like "The Mouse and the Motorcycle," "Stuart Little," and some other fun kid books. I started reading "Charlotte's Web" to Camryn and Deacon. We've read to page 17.  In the story Fern saves a pig, and she names the pig Wilbur.

One day at school she was still thinking about her pig's name when her school teacher asked her, "Fern, what is the capital of Pennsylvania?"

"Wilbur," Fern answered.

I have all ready watched the movie a couple times, but Iv'e only read the book once. Camryn and Deacon both liked the pig best, and I like Fern and Wilbur. In the book is Fern is my age, 8, and so that is fun for me.

My Suzuki book one recital

On Friday, March 25th I had my Suzuki book one recital. Earlier in the week I handed out my invitations. People started to come at 6:55 and I thought that it was only 6:35! When the first person came my mom had just done my hair. When it was time to start the recital I was excited but a little nervous too. For my recital I told my published story called, "Magical Meggie," and I played songs as they fit the mood of the story. I did not play all my songs perfectly but I did do really well. I only messed up on four or five  songs. After the recital we had refreshments upstairs. One of the treats were my cookies, that me and Taylor sell in our business.
I had a fun recital, and I am excited to have my Suzuki book two recital.

About Me

I am eight years old and my birthday is in October.
I love to cook and I am an expert at making messes.

I love to do triathlons and when I had my first one I had to wear a life jacket because they said that I had to. I think it slowed me down. Me and Taylor wore wet suits because the water was very cold.

When I was a baby me and my brother, Taylor would hop in a bucket and play in water in it, it was fun.

We had two guinea pigs Tron and Cora. We had then for a while but they were stinky so mom and dad gave them away. We love our guinea pigs and I hope we can get more.

Guinea pigs

Today we went to the library, and we did pet reports and read about animals. I read about Guinea pigs. I did a pet report, and I leaned all about Guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are constantly on alert for predators. Sometimes they might even sleep with there eyes open! And they are not nocturnal animals. Guinea pigs need lots of space to play and exercise. An indoor pen is the best place. Guinea pigs love to play hide and seek. If you don't give attention to them they can get unfriendly and mean, but if you spend a lot of time with them, you will have a nice, happy, and friendly pet. Wild Guinea pigs eat any kind of fresh greens, like grass, leafs buds, bark, twigs, fruits and seeds. Guinea pigs eat as much as they can, They eat up to about forty-sixty meals a day! Short haired Guinea pigs are easy to take care of, because you don't have to brush there hair every day.
I really, really want to get a pet Guinea pig, and hope we do. We used to have two, there names were Tron and Cora.

Fighting Cancer

When mom found out that she had cancer we started to read the Book of Mormon Camryn learned how to read, and loved to read the book of Mormon.

Once mom started having chemo we would wear pink for her every Wednesday.  Our shirts say, ''I wear pink for my mom.'' Mom fighting cancer was a big trial in our life but mom was strong and fought cancer.

When mom had her last day of chemo we all came and we bring her flowers and we all got to ring the bell. We were so excited for mom, it was a big day.

When mom found out that she had cancer it was the day that Taylor gave mom this bracelet and he didn't know that mom had cancer. When he gave her the bracelet he said, "Lots of M's for When mom found out that she had cancer it was the day that Taylor gave mom this bracelet and he didn't know that mom had cancer. Making out Lightsabers!

Every week I look forward to Thursday, because every Maker day we get to make, our create something. Our first Maker day we made lightsabers! We watched this video and listed the things that we needed. We spray painted the pvc pip. I didn't take to long to make them. Making our lightsabers was really fun.

When ever people come to our house we like to show them our lightsabers. Maybe you could watch this video and then you could make a lightsaber. It was pretty easy to shop because all the things we needed to buy they were all at Home Depot.

This video is a Home Depot lightsaber build.

Finishing Number The Stars

One day Mom gave me this book, Number The Stars and she said that she had read when she was a girl.  Mom had liked the book and wanted me to read it. So I said "Ok."

I started to read the book.  At first, it was not very interesting and I said to Mom, "This is not much fun."

I had not done my reading for the day so I kept on reading it. The further I got into the book, the more interesting it became. When I finished the book I said, "This is my favorite book ever! I want to buy it."

At our weekly homeschool symposium we share what we learned, a goal that we accomplished, and something we have made.  I shared that I had finished reading Number the Stars.

I shared the my summary of the book, here it is:

Annemarie and her best friend Ellen are pretending to be sisters because Ellen is Jewish and some soldiers want to take Jewish people away. One night, Annemarie's mom is on the phone with her Ellen's mother and is going to have a sleep over with Ellen because that night soldiers are going to come take them away. That is when they pretend to be sisters. Annemarie doesn't know why Ellen is spending the night over at her home, then her father tells her. "Ellen and her family are  Jewish and soldiers came here and they are going to take away all the Jewish people. Don't worry Soldiers probably won't come to our house, if they do just say you are Annemarie's sister, Lise."
The girls went to Annemarie's room to get ready for bed they laughed and had fun and then they went to bed. Early that morning Annemarie woke up. She was woken up by the rain then she heard a knock on the door, it was Soldiers!! "Ellen, Ellen wake up! Soldiers are here. Take of your necklace."
Ellen was waring the star of David. "I can't get it of! I never take it of and forget how to!"
"Hold on this will hurt." Annamarie yanked the necklace of Ellen. Then the Soldiers came in the room. they saw that the girls were awake then the talked the Soldiers asked what the girls name was He asked Annamarie. "My name is Annemarie and this is my sister Li....
"Wait. She can tell me her name."
"Lise sir." The Soldiers left and then Annamarie's mom called Uncle Henrik and latter that day they went to Uncle Henrik house. A few days later Ellen's parents came to get her and Peter had something for Uncle Henrik. When he was going out of the house her dropped it and then later Annemarie finds the thing. She doesn't know what it is but her mother said, "Take this to Uncle Henrik and if anyone stops you pretend you are a crazy little girl that is taking you funny Uncle that forget his lunch. Annemarie is walking through the woods when soldiers stop and they have dogs. She does as her mother says and the Soldiers go through the food in the basket and when they get to the bottom the rip the thing that Annemarie was going to give to Uncle Henrik then she saw what is was in was a handkerchief. Then the soldiers keep on going on. Annemarie put all the stuff in the basket and then went to Uncle Henrik.

Later that day she asked Uncle Henrik about the handkerchief. He says that it ruins the dogs smell because the dogs are trained to smell Jewish people:

I know that this  is a long summary it is a good story and there are a lot of important parts. I would encourage you to read it. Thank you for reading this page.
